Suns announce Ring of Honor reimagining
by
Permanent banners and murals will find a home at Footprint Center to honor the Suns’ Ring of Honor and celebrate the team’s biggest stars in the history of their franchise.
“The members of the Ring of Honor played a central role in creating the organization’s storied history,” said Matt Ishbia, Phoenix Suns and Mercury owner. “It was important that we honor them in a way that will always be on display,”
At halftime of the Suns’ first home game on Oct. 28 against the Jazz, a ceremony will take place to display the new memorabilia and artwork.
In attendance for the ceremony will be former Suns’ players Shawn Marion and Amar’e Stoudemire to help unveil the new project. The team previously announced that the two stars would receive additional banners as a gesture of honor during their official inductions.
Banners will hang among the rafters of the west sideline and murals will be painted by local artists along the walls of the upper level hallways.
“These legends helped define the Suns and are integral members of our family, connecting all generations of our fans throughout the past 55 years,” Ishbia said. “The permanent banners and murals will serve as a constant tribute to their contributions to the team’s history and how they paved the way for the next era of Suns basketball.”
